Japanese Candlestick Charting Techniques: A Contemporary Guide to the Ancient Investment Techniques of the Far East is one the most famous trading publications of all time. The book is written by Steve Nison, a world renowned technical analyst and trading author. Steve was among one of the first to receive the Chartered Market Technician (CMT) designation and was previously a senior technical analyst for Merrill Lynch. Steve Nison now spends his time as a trading coach and an instructor at the New York Institute of Finance.
Below is my review of Japanese Candlestick Charting Techniques...
It's the price action traders bible
There is no other trading publication that covers such in-depth and wide-range of candlestick setups and price patterns. The book contains over 250 pages over Japanese candlestick setups (some that even I have never even heard of) and price patterns. It is truly the best reference book for a price action trader or a technical analyst.
It's highly detailed and contains numerous illustrations
Japanese Candlestick Charting Techniques contains well-written explanations of each candlestick setup and pattern, as well as clear and well-printed illustrations. It's a great reference book and should not confuse the reader.
It's expensive and nothing new
It is very expensive ($100.00!). I personally don't think it is worth the money but it could be worth purchasing if you are new to technical analysis. The book comes as hard cover and is printed on A4 paper, hence one of the reasons why it costs so much!
Summary
To be honest, I was a little disappointed with Japanese Candlestick Charting Techniques. Most - if not all - of the information in the book can be found for free on-line. The book is very basic and not ideal for an experienced technical trader. For the cost of this book - my most expensive purchase to date - I was expecting more.
